For some crazy reason, last year I decided to join the gardening crowd. Our neighbors do a fairly good job of planting flowers near their driveway. I really didn't want to do any weeding for a garden bed like they do every spring so I went for pots to replant every spring. Last year Leo came up and helped me with my choosing of plants and the planting. This year he is too busy or maybe he just didn't want to participate. I tried to get him to come up and help over Memorial Day but no luck. SO, I was on my own and I kept putting it off. I think that choosing the plants is almost as difficult as planting them I never know how many to buy and what kind of color mixture to get. Today I just 'dove in' and went to Meijer. I wandered around for a while and then just got a cart and started filling it. I potted them when I got home but had to wait for Bud to come home and help me move the big pots.
I put these 3 pots out by the driveway. We had this ivy transplanted from the back yard last year and Bud put some wildflower seeds on this area beside the driveway. He is trying to get it to go back to a 'woodsy' look. I vote for that. I think the ivy will take over and spread also but in the meantime the pots of flowers add a 'pop of color' to that area and they are easy to water because we are already watering the wildflowers and the ivy. I had enough leftover flowers to put this pot again between the garage doors. This is the place that Bud hangs his flag. He is a faithful 'flag boy', taking it down every night and putting it back up in the morning. Matt and Diana and the girls bought this for him last Christmas.
Like I said, I never know how many flowers to buy so this is the leftovers. I decided to hang it in the backyard area for now. I bought this hanger last winter and put a couple of bird feeders on it. I was gone for a week and the squirrels managed to take one of the bird feeders and hide it somewhere. I found the suet feeder in the woods but never found the other bird feeder. Maybe the squirrels will try to eat the flowers too. I also might move this planter in the front yard where it would look nice in the garden. I will need to buy another plant to hang and balance it out though.
Gardening is really not my favorite thing to do but it does look nice. I am working on a minimum garden so that I don't need to water too much or do any weeding. Eva is the gardener in our family and I am very willing to keep it that way.
