Yesterday Bud and I went to the movies to see The Great Exotic Marigold Hotel. I strongly recommend this movie if you can find it in your theater. It is kind of one of those 'indie' movies and we have an great theater here in town for just such movies.
The story line is a group of British citizens that have financial difficulties in their later years of life. This group of people, both men, women and couples, are attracted to an advertisement to live out their years in this hotel in India. They all take off and of course the hotel isn't quite what the brochure advertised. It was quite run down and needed a lot of work. The owner of the hotel is a young and VERY optimistic Indian man whose motto is "It will all work out in the end, and if it isn't working out, it isn't the end yet." or something like that. It was a very inspirational movie about people and their resilience. Some people found love, some found a new outlook on life, some reconnected with their past and some just didn't make it and had to return home.
The movie got me to thinking, maybe Bud and I should get ourselves a place in some exotic country and live out those final years learning about a new culture. I think that we might do a better job at finding a flat in Paris though and trying to live a quiet life there. It would be fun but probably not as inexpensive. Maybe Sara and Leo will hook us up with a place on the beach in Sri Lanka. Anyone want to go with us??? Yes the Paris thing would be easy to get any of you to go along but how about Sri Lanka?
Check out the movie and let me know. We DO know that we won't be going to India though. I don't think we would survive there for very long.
